Hand-eye coordination refers to coordinating the movements of the hand and the eyes to perform specific tasks. Often used when talking about sports, hand-eye coordination is used in everyday life in tasks such as cooking, laundry, washing cars or using a computer. Training to improve your hand-eye coordination is not complicated, and can be achieved through simple exercises performed at home.
Step 1
Sit comfortably and focus on an object that is close to you. Switch your focus to an object that is in the distance. Continue to alternate your focus between near and far.
Step 2
Write letters of the alphabet all around the surface of a softball, so they are visible from any angle but not too closely bunched together. Play catch with the ball, and call out the last letter you see before you catch it on each throw.
Step 3
Set up two objects to act as goal posts, and get a soft soccer-type ball. Stand between the posts and have a friend try to throw the ball by you. Use only your hands to try to stop the ball.
Step 4
Throw a tennis ball up in the air to yourself over and over again. Play in a spot where you can make yourself move around a bit.
Step 5
Play ping-pong, either against a wall or an opponent. Practice forehand and backhand shots, and pick specific spots to try to return the ball.
Step 6
Bounce a ping-pong ball in the air against a paddle. Stand somewhere you have a bit of room so you can walk forward and backward while continuing to bounce the ball. Use the front and back of the paddle, and alternate as the ball is in the air. Also, practice bouncing it off the floor with the paddle repeatedly.
Step 7
Obtain three soft balls or beanbags, and learn how to juggle. Start slowly at first, then as you get accustomed to the motion and hand movements, speed up.
