Choosing a nursing home involves balancing price and quality. In Manhattan, where the cost of living is four times the national average, that can be a Herculean endeavor. Village Nursing Home is located near the Meat District. Their full-time residential facility caters to senior citizens requiring health care for their chronic conditions. Isabella Geriatric Center

The Isabella Geriatric Center is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Manhattan community since 1875. The facility spans four acres along the Harlem River. Isabella is truly a full-service facility, offering adult day care in addition to the nursing home, as well as childcare and adult rehabilitation programs. It also serves as a senior center to area residents. Isabella charges $450 per day for its residential program, as of August 2010.

Amsterdam Nursing Home

Amsterdam Nursing Home is situated between Columbia University and the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. The facility is affiliated with the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System. This relationship allows Amsterdam to serve seniors with chronic medical conditions. Nursing home residents are able to access Amsterdam's short- and long-term rehabilitation programs, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Amsterdam also offers an adult day care program. Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center

The Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center provides residential care to children from birth to age 21. Children admitted to the facility may have a range of physical and developmental problems including neurological disease, brain injury, heart disease, chromosome disorders or cerebral palsy. Elizabeth Seton staff work with families to provide social services, education, psychological services and pastoral care. Elizabeth Seton provides fee quotes after families have received an admissions tour.
