Protein shakes have been a staple in the diets of bodybuilders for years. Now a more mainstream drink, protein shakes are an quick way to get a high amount of concentrated nutrients into your body. These shakes are convenient, and not difficult to make from scratch. All you need is a blender and some ingredients to improvise with, and you will be enjoying a delicious protein shake in minutes.

Step 1

Measure one scoop of protein powder and add it to a blender. Use whey or soy protein powder with no added sugar or artificial sweeteners. Add more scoops if you are making more than one serving. Vegan protein powder is also an option if you do not consume dairy or soy.

Step 2

Pour in milk, water or juice to act as the liquid base for the protein shake. Experiment with all three to determine which one suits your taste buds the best, and which texture you prefer. Start with 1 cup and add more at the end if the shake is too thick.

Step 3

Add the remaining ingredients. These can include a handful of fresh or frozen berries, a banana, yogurt or ice cubes, or even a splash of flax oil and aloe vera gel. As long as the protein component is there, the rest is just for extra nutrition and taste. Record the amounts you put in of each ingredient, so when you find one you really like, you won't have to rely on memory to recreate it.

Step 4

Blend the ingredients of your shake. Add ingredients to modify the consistency and taste, as you see fit.
