Ring toss is a carnival style game kids can play in their own home to practice hand-eye coordination. The object of ring toss is to throw your rings onto the targets to score points. The more targets you encircle with your rings, the more points you earn. Each target can be worth 1 point, or you can label the targets so that each target has a different value. Older children can add up their own points to exercise their math skills.
Step 1
Draw two small lines about 1/2 inch, side by side, where you will put each of the nine targets on your large cardboard box lid. Make the targets evenly spaced apart, with three rows with three targets in each row, or place your nine targets more haphazardly for a bigger challenge.
Step 2
Cut slits at each of your small lines with scissors or a box cutter. The slits should be slightly smaller than the ends of your clothespins so the clothespins will stay in place.
Step 3
Stick the ends of clothespins into each pair of slits. Number the targets with a marker, if you want each target to represent a different point value.
Step 4
Tie each twist-tie into a circle to use for rings if you do not have rubber jar rings.
Tips and Warnings
- You can use soda pop bottles as the targets and fashion rings out of rope. The farther away you stand from the ring toss, the harder the game becomes.
