Taking special care of your hair is an important part of growing your hair naturally. Perhaps you'd like a longer style, or maybe you want to grow out damaged hair due to chemical processing or overuse of styling products. Keep in mind that hair grows at a rate of one inch every two to three months, according to Drs. William Bennett, Stephen M. Goldfinger and Timothy Johnson in their book "Your Good Health: How to Stay Well, and What to Do When You're Not." You can't speed up this process, but you can help your hair stay healthy and strong.
Step 1
Practice massaging your scalp twice daily. Massage it in the morning when you get out of bed and before you go to sleep at night. Scalp massages help to promote circulation and increase the flow of blood to your hair follicles, which stimulates your scalp. Use your fingertips and massage gently for five minutes each time.
Step 2
Trim split ends at least every two months. Split ends give hair a damaged, frizzy and lifeless appearance. If you do not, your hair will continue to grow, but the ends will keep splitting up the hair shaft. In the book "Relaxed Or Natural," author Eddie Lee points out that people with chemically treated hair may need more frequent trims, such as every four to five weeks.
Step 3
Wash your hair every other day. Unless you have very oily hair, washing every day tends to dry out the hair, potentially causing breakage or damage. Try washing every other day or every third day if possible.
Step 4
Condition your hair every time you wash. Use a conditioner formulated for your hair type. If you're not sure what your hair type is, consult your stylist.
Step 5
Apply rosemary essential oil to your scalp once or twice a week before shampooing. Dilute four drops of rosemary oil in one tablespoon of a carrier oil, such as grapeseed. Massage into your scalp. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, rosemary has been used in traditional medicines to stimulate hair growth.
Step 6
Dry your hair naturally. Using a blow dryer can dry out your hair, causing hair loss or damage to the hair shaft. If you must blow-dry your hair, use it on a very low heat setting.
