EC-Naprosyn is a medication in a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. According to Drugs.com, naproxen is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout and menstrual cramps. There are some side effects associated with EC-Naprosyn that patients should be aware of prior to taking this medication.
Stomach Discomfort
EC-Naprosyn may cause stomach discomfort in some users. Symptoms can include upset stomach, mild heartburn or stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating and gas, says Drugs.com. Taking this medication with food or milk may help diminish these effects. Eating smaller meals more frequently and avoiding spicy, greasy or fatty foods can also help to avoid stomach discomfort.
In some cases, EC-Naprosyn can increase one's risk of developing ulcers and bleeding in the stomach and intestines at any time during treatment, which can lead to death, explains PDRHealth. Patients with stomach or duodenal ulcers or those that have a history of ulcers should discuss this risk with their physicians prior to taking this medication.
Headache and Dizziness
For some users, EC-Naprosyn can cause headache and dizziness. These side effects may be temporary and diminish after the body acclimates to the medication. Patients that experience dizziness should use caution while driving or completing tasks that require them to be alert and awake. According to Drugs.com, those who experience a headache that is accompanied by fever, neck stiffness, chills, increased sensitivity to light, purple spots on the skin, and/or seizure may be having a serious reaction to EC-Naprosyn and should seek medical attention right away.
Skin Rash
EC-Naprosyn may cause some patients to develop a skin rash. This rash may or may not cause itching. Users who develop a skin rash should keep their skin clean and dry and avoid direct exposure to the sunlight. Tanning beds and sunlamps should also be avoided. A skin rash that persists or worsens, or begins to peel and form blisters, should be reported to a physician prior to taking another dose of EC-Naprosyn.
