Finding natural ways to regrow hair can be a time-consuming and daunting task, especially when the hair loss is noticeable. Hair loss or thinning is a natural part of aging, but genetic factors also may contribute. Natural remedies are not a substitute for medical treatment, especially if an underlying condition is causing the hair problems. Consult your health care provider to discuss your needs.

Biotin

Biotin is part of the B-complex group and is found naturally in certain foods, including egg yolks, romaine lettuce, carrots and tomatoes. Increasing your daily intake of biotin may help promote hair growth, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. However, there is limited clinical evidence to suggest that increasing biotin over the suggested levels will help regrow hair. Consult your physician on the proper amounts of biotin for you.

Iron

Iron helps to regulate cell growth. A deficiency may be a contributor to hair loss, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Iron is available in foods, such as red meats, seafood, soybeans and dark vegetables. Increasing the intake of iron might help reduce or eliminate the iron deficiency and promote hair growth. Since taking too much iron can pose a health risk, you should consult your health care provider.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is available as a supplement and by sun exposure through ultraviolet-B rays. An animal study done by the University of California School of Medicine in Los Angeles reported that the hair growth and hair follicle cycling occurred when hairless mice were given doses of vitamin D3. However, no human clinical studies have been performed on the effectiveness of vitamin D3 supporting hair growth. Consult your health care provider before increasing your vitamin D intake.

Rosemary

Rosemary is common in Mediterranean cooking and an herb used in alternative medicine. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, rosemary helps to support the nervous and circulatory systems and may help to increase circulation to the scalp to promote hair growth. Consult your health care provider to discuss your needs.

Lavender

Lavender is an herb found in hair shampoos and conditioners for its botanical properties. In addition, lavender oil helps to stimulate the blood and circulation in the scalp when massaged into your scalp, which may help to prevent hair loss and promote hair follicle stimulation. Consult your health care provider to discuss your needs.

Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto is available in shampoo or as a supplement and has been used as a remedy for prostate enlargement. According to the GrannyMed website, saw palmetto influences testosterone and enzyme production, similar to Propecia, a common hair loss medication. Consult your health care provider to discuss your needs.
