Exercising can be boring. Often doing the same routine over and over saps your energy and initiative, so instead of rewarding you for the effort, you instead turn away from it. Boot camps, on the other hand, inspire and direct men and women into a group approach to fitness with a variety of exercises that will result in weight loss, energy boost and overall confidence. South Carolina has many programs that offer the boot camp approach; whether it's a day camp or an overnight spa experience, the right boot camp is available for you.

Workout Plan

With a combination of strength training, cardiovascular exercise and endurance workouts you will get everything you need for a healthier lifestyle. These programs will motivate and challenge you through a variety of group workouts that may include kick boxing, competitions between groups, obstacle courses and drills. Concentrated effort in flexibility, coordination and strength training is part of the program.

Daily Sessions

Many programs are held outdoors in one-hour sessions everyday for two to four weeks. During a four-week program you can expect to begin your day in the early morning with many classes being offered before typical work hours. All abilities are welcome and no one gets left behind; however, you will be challenged with an increase in intensity of workouts each day.

Extended Overnight Programs

Some boot camps are overnight stays from one to two weeks through spas and hotels. During these sessions you will experience an intense program dedicated to fitness and weight loss. Many of these programs can be personalized as to how much weight you would like to lose and will guide you in the right routine and choices to achieve this goal. A typical day might include jumping rope, doing Pilates, sport yoga and circuit training.

Weight Loss Strategies

Many programs include a health assessment where the staff will take your blood pressure and weight and then counsel you on weight loss strategies through diet and exercise. Many participants in boot camp sessions experience a 25 percent increase in strength and endurance, improved posture, better sleep and average weight loss of 5 to 12 lbs.

Equipment Needs

Very little equipment is necessary other than a workout mat, a water bottle and a positive attitude. Be sure to wear proper workout clothes, which should include running shoes with extra cushion or stability and workout clothing that wicks moisture away from your body, typically referred to as tech gear. Be sure to check with the health club for any other equipment needed such as cycling gear or tennis rackets.
