Whether you're just headed to the park for some fun with the family or planning a huge family reunion picnic, ideas for good food everyone will love can be hard to come by. Planning picnic food doesn't need to be a stress. Classic picnic foods are meant to be easily transportable and appeal to most everyone's tastes.
Barbecue
Many parks feature barbecue grills you can use to fire up a tasty meal. Even if the park or area you'll be going to doesn't have grills, you can always pack along a portable grill using charcoal or propane. Slap some steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs or even seasoned chicken breasts on the grill for a main dish everyone loves in the summer.
Side Dishes
Potato salad is one of the great American classics for picnic food. The cold, refreshing taste goes perfect with a warm burger or slab of steak. But potato salad isn't the only salad you can serve up at your next picnic. Pasta salad provides the same appeal, with its bold flavors and tasty spices, you can put virtually anything you want in it to satisfy the group. Not to mention the classic side dish that's also great for snacking on---potato chips. They come in every shape and flavor, meaning you can pick up a few bags for your picnic and please just about everyone.
Desserts
Some of the best picnic dessert foods are ones that can be eaten by hand so guests don't have to sit at a table to munch them down, but instead walk around and enjoy each others' company. That's why cookies of every shape and variety---chocolate chip, Snickerdoodles, peanut butter---make an ideal choice for family picnics. Brownies are another great choice, allowing you to add little treats and surprises, such as a swirl of caramel, bits of chocolate candy pieces or even a layer of mint.
Beverages
After all is said and done, the one thing you don't want to forget is a nice, cold drink to wash your meal down with. Stir up a nifty concoction of fruit punch mixed with lemon-lime soda pop to create a tasty treat that will be sure to please kids and adults alike. Canned soda and juice is also a convenient alternative if you don't want to worry about providing plastic cups. When all else fails, water is always a safe bet.
