According to Mayo Clinic.com, cellulite is caused by connective tissue between the skin and underlying muscle, and as fat cells accumulate in the area, they push against the skin while the connective tissue pulls downward, resulting in the dimpled surface ski commonly associated with cellulite. While cellulite is more common in women, it does form on men as well. Luckily, there are some natural treatments that can help to get rid of cellulite on both men and women. These remedies have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration however, so talk with your doctor before starting treatments.

Cocoa Butter and Sea Salt Scrub

According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939," a mixture of cocoa butter and sea salt can be used to help get rid of cellulite on the skin for both men and women. To make and use this treatment, combine 2 tbsp. cocoa butter with 1 tsp. sea salt and stir to combine. Gently massage the mixture onto the affected area for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse the area with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't bother your skin or cause extreme redness. Unused portions of this mixture can be stored in a cool, dark place for one week.

Coffee Ground and Olive Oil

According to Julie Gabriel, author of "The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances," a mixture of coffee grounds and olive oil can be used to help get rid of cellulite on the body. To make this mixture, combine 3 tbsp. coffee ground and 2 tbsp. olive oil and stir or shake to combine. Massage the mixture onto the skin. Rinse the area with warm water and wash with a mild cleanser before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used twice per day as long as it doesn't bother your skin, and unused portions can be kept in a cool, dark place for up to 72 hours.

Juniper Berry Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," a mixture of juniper berry essential oil and jojoba oil can be applied to the skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite in both women and men. To make this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. juniper berry essential oil and 8 tbsp. jojoba oil in a small glass bottle and shake to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto clean fingertips and massage it onto the affected area for 3 to 4 minutes. Rinse the area with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. There is no need to wash with soap unless the mixture irritates your skin. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept for up to one month in a cool, dark place.
