Dr. Mehmet Oz is known for his Daytime Emmy Award winning show "The Dr. Oz Show" and serving as the featured health expert for five seasons on "The Oprah Show." In 2009, Dr. Oz teamed up with Dr. Michael Roizen to develop a diet plan that works to help people lose weight by changing the way they eat and live.

Examine Your Pantry

Carefully read the labels on food in your pantry and at the grocery store. Stay away from hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oil and limit saturated fats to 4 grams or less per serving. Saturated fats and trans fats raise your cholesterol level and put you at risk for heart disease, according to MayoClinic.com. Also, eliminate high fructose corn syrup and sugar from the foods you eat. According to Dr. Oz, Americans consume 63 pounds of high fructose corn syrup a year; which adds 33 pounds to your current weight. In addition, do not buy foods that contain enriched or bleached flour; enriched means nutrients are removed then some are put back into the product, according to Dr. Oz. Moreover, when shopping, read product labels first; be aware that ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, according to MayoClinic.com.

Snack On Healthy Foods

Snack on healthy foods such as carrots, celery sticks, apples and nuts instead of empty-calorie snacks like potato chips, candy and cookies. Dr. Oz says some of the best ways to take the edge off your impulse cravings and satisfy your urge is to drink vegetable juice or water or eat a breath strip.

Eat Breakfast

Eat breakfast every morning. Although studies have not linked a real connection between eating breakfast and weight loss, according to Dr. Oz those who eat breakfast are more likely to stay thin. Furthermore, breakfast helps jump start your metabolism and fuels your body for the energy needed to get through the day. Dr. Roizen suggests eating the same foods or a small variety of foods every morning. Find healthy and satisfying foods that you like, such as raw oats, egg whites, whole grain cereals and breads, and stick with what works best for you.

Exercise

Exercise is important when it comes to weight loss and maintaining a healthy physique. Walk at least 30 minutes every day to build stamina and help prepare your body for more strenuous exercise like strength training. If you are new to exercise, consider setting a goal to walk at least 10,000 steps per day to stay active. Additionally, include weight training into your fitness program to help increase lean muscle tissue, which allows the body to burn more calories and maintain a lower amount of body fat.
