Bags under the eyes may be caused by a lack of sleep or sleeping on your face during the night, says Marianne O'Donoghue, M.D., associate professor of dermatology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Covering up the bags under your eyes is not a long-term solution for the problem. Consult a doctor to determine the cause of your puffy eyes.
Step 1
Wet two black teabags with cold water, wrap each bag in a tissue, then place one over each eye for five minutes, recommends Dr. O'Donoghue. The cold from the teabags will help reduce swelling, while the tannins in the black tea will help tighten the skin.
Step 2
Dab hemorrhoid cream underneath the eyes for two minutes to reduce puffiness, suggests makeup artist Julie Tussey in "MORE" magazine. Hemorrhoid cream may help reduce under-eye swelling.
Step 3
Dab a concealer in a color as close to your skin tone as possible under the eyes, recommends Valerie Monroe in "O, The Oprah Magazine." Do not smear or rub the concealer.
Step 4
Dab a small amount of highlighting cream on the inside corner of the eyes to draw attention to the eyes themselves, instead of the bags underneath. You can purchase highlighting cream at the drugstore or a specialty makeup store.
Step 5
Apply the rest of your makeup as usual. Adding foundation, pressed powder and eye makeup to your face will help mask the concealer and make your eye bags look less noticeable.
