Motilium is the Canadian brand name of the prescription medication domperidone. Domperidone is an anti-emetic medication, prescribed to treat nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal motility disorders. Motilium is frequently prescribed to treat nausea that occurs as a side effect of other medications, like anti-Parkinson's medications.

Step 1

Understand your prescription and the reasons you are taking this medication. Your physician will base your dose on your personal medical history and the severity of your symptoms. Normal adult doses are as follows:

20 mg, three to four times a day to treat nausea and vomiting.

10 mg, three to four times a day to treat gastrointestinal motility disorders.

Step 2

Take missed doses as soon as you remember. If your next dose is due soon, skip the missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose of Motilium.

Step 3

Store Motilium properly. Keep this medication away from children and out of direct sunlight. Store pills in a dry place, as moisture will break down the chemical composition of Motilium.

Tips and Warnings

  • Take this medication 15 to 30 minutes prior to meal time. Follow-up with your physician regularly while taking Motilium to see if the medication is working properly. Call your physician if symptoms do not improve after three days of treatment.
