How to Change the Belt of the StairMaster 510

The StairMaster 510 is a treadmill designed to help an individual to lose weight and improve cardiovascular health by walking or jogging in place. A motor built into the base of the device turns a walking belt; its speed determines the pace of the workout. Over time, the walking belt on your Stairmaster 510 may wear out, requiring you to install a replacement. In order to do this, you will first need to gain access to the treadmill's deck, which will require you to partially disassemble the device's base.

Removal

Step 1

Press the power button on the left side of the console to activate the treadmill. Use the "up" button, located below and to the right of the power button, to raise the treadmill's deck to the highest level. Press the power button again to deactivate the treadmill.

Step 2

Flip the circuit breaker, located at the end of the treadmill's base, below the console. Unplug the device's power cord from the electrical outlet. Use the flathead screwdriver to loosen the fasteners on the front trim cover, on either side of the circuit breaker.

Step 3

Remove the bolts located under the edge of the cover, below the fasteners. Move to the left side of the hood cover and remove the button-head screw located near where the treadmill hood meets the deck; remove the matching screw on the opposite side of the hood cover. Grip the front and rear sides of the hood cover; lift the cover free and set it aside.

Step 4

Inspect the drive assembly and locate the drive belt and belt tensioner. Turn the mounting bolt on the tensioner counterclockwise, then pivot the tensioner away from the belt.

Step 5

Use the allen wrench to turn the adjustment bolts at the end of the treadmill deck until you have loosened the belt. Use the socket wrench to remove the bolts securing the end caps and belt rollers in place. Remove the end caps and pull the rollers out of the deck.

Step 6

Grip the ends of the side rail covers. Lift the covers upwards and remove them from the deck. Remove the screws securing the deck in place. Remove the deck from the treadmill, then slide the belt off the deck.

Installation

Step 1

Fit the new belt over the treadmill deck with the logo facing upwards. Reinsert the deck into the treadmill's base and use the previously-removed screws to secure the deck back into place. Fit the side rail covers back onto the deck and push them into place.

Step 2

Lift the treadmill belt and insert the rollers into either end of the treadmill deck. Replace the end caps. Use the previously removed bolts to secure the rollers and end caps back into place. Use the allen wrench to turn the adjustment bolts until you have properly tightened the belt.

Step 3

Set the drive belt tensioner back to its original position. Turn the mounting bolt clockwise until the tensioner is secure.

Step 4

Fit the hood cover back over the treadmill's drive assembly. Push down on the cover until it is properly seated. Replace the screws on either side of the cover and tighten them securely. Reinsert the bolts under the edge of the front trim cover and tighten them securely.

Step 5

Tighten the fasteners located on either side of the circuit breaker. Plug in the treadmill's power cord and set the circuit breaker to the "on" position.
