Curly hair and even straight hair can get frizzy due to dryness and humidity. Frizzy hair can ruin a polished look and may indicate that your hair is damaged. Overuse of products and heated styling tools can dry out your hair and cause it to appear frizzy. If you have naturally curly or permed hair, slightly frizzy hair may be impossible to prevent when the weather is humid and damp, but you can prevent frizzies most of the time with proper hair care and a little extra attention for your tresses.
Step 1
Work a moisturizing shampoo through your hair every other day to keep it moist.
Step 2
Massage a conditioner through your hair and comb it through with your fingers while you are in the shower to make sure it coats your hair evenly, recommends "Marie Claire."
Step 3
Squeeze excess water out of your hair after your shower with a towel.
Step 4
Mix three parts of anti-frizz cream with one part smoothing serum and work it into your hair all the way to the ends, recommends Jonathan Hanousek, a Los Angeles hair stylist. If your hair is particularly dry, mix equal parts of leave-in conditioner, hair gel and smoothing serum to help tame frizzy hair.
Step 5
Dry your hair with a diffuser attachment to minimize frizzy hair. Start at your neck and work your way forward while gently combing it into place, recommends Jimmy Paul, a New York stylist.
Step 6
Angle the dryer down toward the ends of your hair to help your hair settle in place while you dry it.
Step 7
Visit your stylist for a trim every six to eight weeks to prevent split ends which can lead to frizzy hair, recommends "Marie Claire."
Step 8
Keep your hair at least shoulder-length with long layers, but ask your stylist to avoid using thinning shears. Thinning shears often lead to split ends, which create a frizzy appearance, cautions Ric Pipino, a New York based hair stylist.
