Bringing your baby home from the hospital can be one of the most exciting events of your life. You want to make sure your baby feels welcome and comfortable in her new environment, and that you have everything you need on hand in order to take care of her every need.

Rocking Chair

Picking out furniture for your new nursery can be overwhelming, considering the wide selection that's out there. The most important aspect to consider is what is most comfortable and appealing to you. For example, one of the staples of many nurseries is a rocking chair. If you're looking for a more classic look, you might consider a wooden rocking chair with a blanket folded over the back, but take into consideration your comfort level in that type of chair when you're up at 2 a.m. for a late-night feeding. Some furniture manufacturers offer gliders or rockers made to look like normal chairs, even with ottomans that glide as well.

Decoration

Adding a little splash of color to the walls of your new baby's room is a relatively inexpensive solution---if you know how to do it yourself. A can of paint and a free afternoon can help you customize your baby's wall colors to something you're more comfortable with. For a touch of individuality, you can also consider putting some vinyl lettering on the wall. You can find a wide selection of cute, funny and touching phrases to put up over your baby's crib, or maybe even just some simple embellishments such as butterflies or stars.

Supplies

One of the main purposes of a nursery is to have a place where you can store everything you need to take care of your baby. Instead of heading to the outside trash can to dispose of every single diaper you change throughout the day, you might consider investing in a diaper pail that controls odors, allowing you to make one trip to the dumpster every 10 to 15 smelly diapers. The nursery is also the perfect place to keep on hand a baby first-aid kit, with a thermometer, nose and throat aspirator, nail clippers and medicine dispenser.
