Baby bumper pads line the rails of cribs and can be reused in a number of ways in your child's room once he outgrows his crib. If you are simply looking to reuse a bumper pad for another child's crib, take heed: The American Academy of Physicians discourages the use of bumper pads because babies can suffocate on the material and die. However, if used, the AAP recommends a thin, mesh bumper, tightly secured, with the strings out of the baby's reach. Wash your bumper pad in hot water with a mild, allergen-free detergent before reusing for any purpose.
Step 1
Make a hanging wall decoration. Cut the bumper pad into individual squares. Sew the seams shut, and attach the squares to one another with the bumper pad ties. Spell out your child's name on the squares or write a message on the squares, either through embroidery, patches or with fabric paint.
Step 2
Sew pillows. Remove the bumper pad ties. Open the seams of the bumper pad and remove the stuffing. Cut the fabric into the size you wish. Re-stuff, and sew into pillows.
Step 3
Create a doll or teddy bear. Cut off the bumper pad ties. Open the seams of the pads. Remove the stuffing. Cut your pattern. Sew and stuff your doll or bear.
