Pores can look bigger when you fail to keep them clean. As you age, your pores will most likely become larger as well, due to sun exposure and a decrease in your skin's production of collagen, says dermatologist David E. Bank, MD. Little evidence exists to support products that claim to reduce pore size permanently, according to Elle magazine. However, you can minimize your pores' appearance by using products designed to clear them of impurities.
Bioré Pore Unclogging Scrub
According to Elle, Diane Berson, MD, recommends using a scrub that contains a 2 percent salicylic acid solution, such as Bioré Pore Unclogging Scrub, to exfoliate your skin and clean out your pores. This scrub promises to clean your skin and rid it of toxins, dirt, oil, dead skin cells and other impurities that can clog pores and make them appear larger. In addition, the salicylic acid fights current and future breakouts by reaching down into your pores and depositing the medicine where pimples begin. The product acts as both a cleanser and a scrub and promises to make your face appear smoother and clearer, while still being gentle on your skin. It contains an oil-free formula and the company claims it to be safe for you to use every day.
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Cream
To keep pores clear of dead skin and oil, Allure recommends replacing your regular face wash once or twice a week with an exfoliating cream such as Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Cream. This product contains lactic acid, which is derived from milk. The maker claims it gets rid of dead skin cells, unclogs pores and leaves your skin feeling smoother and more polished. It is promised to brighten dull skin and improve your skin's texture and appearance. The cream also contains chamomile to calm skin and lessen irritation, as well as aloe vera to soothe and repair it.
Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher
An uneven skin tone or a build-up of pigment can also make your pores appear larger, according to Estée Lauder's vice president of research and development, Daniel Maes, PhD. He recommends using the brand's Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher to get rid of any pigment build up on your skin and clear out your pores, says Elle. This product is a serum, and it also contains ingredients that are intended to reflect light and lessen the shadows that can be cast in large or stretched out pores, which make them look even bigger. It promises to make your pores look one-third their size, as well as even out your skin tone, get rid of any dryness or flaking, and smooth out your skin's overall texture.
