Wigs are versatile hair accessories made of synthetic or human hair. Whether you are wearing one because of medical-related hair loss or because you want a new look, your wig requires proper care and maintenance. You can save money and time if you have the proper supplies for your wig.

Cleaning Products

Wig cleansing products are available at local beauty supply stores or online. Synthetic hair wigs last longer if you use products made specifically for wigs. Products used on regular hair can strip the color and make your synthetic hair wig look dull. Cleanse your human hair wig with any mild shampoo and conditioner.

Brushes

Wigs must be styled after washing so that they may look as natural as possible. A wig brush is best for synthetic hair wigs; regular brushes may be too rough. Wig brushes are made with rows of wire or ball-tipped bristles. The bristles on a wig brush move through the hair like a comb instead of brushing over the hair surface like a regular hair brush. With a wig made of human hair, you may use any styling tool from your supply store and even heat appliances with caution. Do not do this with synthetic hair. Heated styling tools such as a flat iron will burn and destroy your synthetic wig, according to Headcovers website.

Wig Cap

A wig cap is important to ensure a smooth look when wearing your wig. Wearing a wig cap can prevent your own hair from peeking underneath the wig. It also protects your hair underneath from damage from the wig rubbing across it or protects your scalp if you are bald. Although wig caps are optional, the benefits of wearing one make it a good idea. There are various options, but most wig caps are inexpensive nylon caps that fit snugly.

Wig Stand

No matter the cost of your wig, you want it to stay in the best condition. Carelessly storing your wigs will cause tangles to the hair and shortens the wig's lifespan. A wig stand is perfect for storing your wigs. Some may prefer to use a foam head for wig storage. After washing your wig, you can place on the wig stand or head to dry and then style it with ease. Both storage options keep the wig in proper form for quick application and longer use.
