If you suspect that your infant's crib contains bed bugs, do not panic. Bed bugs do not cause disease and you can do several things to get rid of them. At worst, the tiny bugs' bites will cause small red spots to appear on your infant's skin. These are usually painless and likely will not even wake the infant. Unfortunately, ridding your infant's room--and your house--of bed bugs can become a frustrating, ongoing battle.

Step 1

Inspect your infant's mattress and crib carefully. Look for visible signs of bed bugs and their eggs.

Step 2

Use a narrow vacuum cleaner attachment to get the bed bugs and eggs out of all the crevices where you find evidence of infestation. Be as thorough as possible, even vacuum crevices where there is no visible evidence.

Step 3

Wash the bedding and your infant's clothes in hot water that is a least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Put them in the dryer for at least 20 minutes.

Step 4

Clean up all the clutter in your infant's room. Scattered junk gives bed bugs places to hide.

Step 5

Use caulking to seal cracks in the furniture, crib frame, base boards and walls in your infant's room. If possible, place double-sided tape around the perimeter of your infant's crib to catch additional bed bugs as they migrate toward the crib.

Step 6

Consult a professional pest-control service if the problem persists.
