Drinking alcoholic beverages is one of the quickest ways to pack on pounds. Bellying up to the bar with your buddies may be your weekend pastime, but this will only sabotage your weight loss efforts. Alcohol not only loads you up with extra calories, but it also causes muscle deterioration, which decreases metabolism. Eliminate alcohol consumption and watch weight melt away without setting foot in a gym.

Step 1

Initially switch to lighter versions of your favorite drinks to start cutting a few calories. Choose a low-calorie version of your favorite beer. Swap sugary mixers such as cranberry juice, orange juice and sour mix for club soda or diet soda.

Step 2

Recruit a support system. Tell your friends and family about your weight loss goals and ask them to help keep you on track.

Step 3

Completely eliminate alcohol to save yourself the empty calories. For example, one vodka and cranberry juice contains around 230 calories. Drink a couple daily and you are looking at putting on an extra pound weekly.
