It's not necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on beauty products that promise you smooth skin and contain ingredients that you can't pronounce or even recognize. By utilizing natural, inexpensive and easy-to-find ingredients, you can get baby smooth skin in just a few minutes at home. Knowing what the ingredients are in your scrub and that it is all natural helps you take another step toward wellness.
Step 1
Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1 oz. almond oil and 3 drops aromatherapy oil in a small bowl. Choose different sugars based upon your needs: brown sugar for a very gentle scrub, white granulated sugar for a more invigorating scrub and raw or natural sugar for deeper cleansing.
Step 2
Mix with clean wooden spoon until all the sugar is moistened.
Step 3
Stand on a large towel near the shower. Gently rub a small handful of the sugar mixture all over the dry skin. Avoid eyes and other body orifices. Get assistance for hard-to-reach areas. Do not apply to the soles of your feet at this time. Save a small amount for Step 6.
Step 4
Step into the shower carefully, making sure you have a rubber mat to stand on for safety. Rinse off the sugar mixture with warm water only. Enjoy the aroma created by the steam if you have included an aromatherapy oil.
Step 5
Step out of the shower carefully--some of the oil will be on the shower floor, so it may be slippery. Dry off with a bath towel, making certain all the sugar has been removed.
Step 6
Scrub your feet utilizing the small amount set aside in Step 3, then wash them off in the sink or a basin. Dry thoroughly. Once the dead skin cells have been scrubbed away, there is no need to moisturize the skin, as the oil from the scrub will be absorbed and remain for days.
Tips and Warnings
- Substitute safflower, grape-seed, hazelnut or soybean oil if you're allergic to almonds. Before the full body treatment, test the scrub on a small patch of a few inches on your arm. If you get a very strong red reaction, do not use the scrub. It is normal for skin to have a pinkish color after you apply the scrub. This should disappear in a few hours.
- Use caution when stepping in and out of the shower, and remember to clean the shower and bath mat with a quality cleanser after the treatment to remove any excess oils. Use scrub no more than once or twice a week.
