Cellulite, or fat deposits under the skin's surface, can cause a cottage cheese, orange peel or dimpled appearance. Cellulite can usually be found on the thighs, hips, belly and arms. Companies market treatments, gels and creams to get rid of cellulite, but topical solutions only work temporarily, if at all. You cannot remove cellulite, but you can decrease the appearance of dimpled skin through healthy nutrition and exercise, notes MayoClinic.com.

Step 1

Perform circuit training three days per week to burn significant amounts of fat. Building muscle through strength training will tighten the skin for a smoother appearance. Choose one compound exercise per body part, focusing on the larger muscle groups. Try push-ups and chest presses for the chest; lunges and squats for the legs; and bent-over rows and pull-ups for the back. Perform one set of 15 repetitions for each exercise and repeat the circuit for 30 minutes.

Step 2

Add cardiovascular exercise to your workout routine. Do 30 minutes of low intensity cardio, such as the elliptical trainer, Stepmill or treadmill after every strength training session. The glycogen stores in the muscles will be depleted after resistance training, so your body will turn to your stored fat as fuel. Cardio after weight training burns more fat than cardio by itself.

Step 3

Clean up your eating. Consume lean proteins such as fish, lean beef, chicken, eggs and soybeans to aid in muscle repair and increase metabolism. Increase your fiber intake by eating fiber rich cereals, whole grains, fruits and vegetables to keep you fuller longer and decrease calories at the same time. Stay away from processed foods high in sodium to avoid bloating and water retention, which can increase the appearance of cellulite.
