Ski vests are essential for staying warm on the slopes. Vests help hold in heat while keeping moisture away from your skin. Snow can melt and seep into your clothing if you aren't wearing a moisture-resistant vest. It's important to clean your ski vest regularly to prevent mildew and stains.

Step 1

Open all the pockets on your ski vest and turn them inside out. Also unzip all the zippers on the vest.

Step 2

Place a small amount of bleach-free, mild cleaning detergent into a washing machine or washing basin. Fill with cold water. Place the vest in the water and allow it to soak. If you are using a washing machine, allow the vest to go through a wash cycle. If washing by hand, use your hands to agitate the soapy water and scrub the outside and interior surfaces of the vest.

Step 3

Rinse the vest with cold water.

Step 4

Air dry the vest on a line or hanger.

Step 5

Use a toothbrush and a small amount of soap to spot clean any stains on the vest. Scrub the soap into the material with the toothbrush head and rinse the spot with water.

Step 6

Avoid drying the vest in ways that might cause the material to shrink or warp. High heats typically found in drying machines can expose the fabric to temperatures that can permanently damage the vest.

Tips and Warnings

  • Always follow the directions on the vest's label. These directions are designed to extend the lifespan of your vest.
