Removing toxins from your liver and colon may help prevent disease. Acupuncturist Angela Zhang says that 90 percent of all sickness and disease begin inside an unclean colon. The Borneo Post reports that liver toxins result "in congestion of all glands, muscles, joints and body structures." There are several home cleansing remedies that may assist you in eliminating colon and liver toxins. Cleansing, while believed by many to be beneficial, has not been scientifically proven to prevent or treat any illness.

Teas

Some teas are beneficial for cleansing. Fennel tea and tea made with grated ginger, lemon juice and honey may soften stools and remove toxic waste from your digestive system. The components in green tea leaves combine with molecules to become a powerful detoxifier. While used by many to remove body toxins, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of fennel, ginger or green tea for cleansing.

Soups

Detoxify your body by making a soup that contains a variety of vegetables. Onions, cabbage, peas, celery, carrots, potatoes, beans and other vegetables blend together to create a delicious, cleansing soup . You may also add a few teaspoons of a fiber supplement, but leave out any oils or butter.

Fasting

Fasting, practiced in religion for centuries, may protect your body from disease-causing toxins. The website ColonCleanseGuide.com states that fasting helps eliminate toxins from the liver and lets the digestive system rest. Detoxification by fasting or other methods must occur at the onset of liver symptoms, according to The Borneo Post. When fasting, drink plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Never begin an extended fast without first consulting with a health care professional.

Lemonade

Try making this lemonade recipe to cleanse your liver and colon. Mix 2 tbsp. of fresh squeezed lemon, 2 tbsp. organic maple syrup and one tenth of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in 10 to 14 oz of pure, warm water. Stir or shake the lemonade before drinking. For additional benefits, add intestinal cleaning supplements such as psyllium husk. The website FalconBlanco.com recommends drinking one 8-oz glass every two hours or a minimum of twelve 8-oz glasses daily. Before beginning a cleansing regimen, consult your medical practitioner.

Salt Water

Salt water can be used as an oral enema to clean your system of toxins. One home remedy says to add 2 tsp. of uniodized sea salt to a quart of lukewarm water. Just shake and drink every morning. This method is said to flush debris, plaque and parasites out the digestive tract and colon within an hour.
