Natural Home Remedies for Pitted & Scarred Skin

Though there are numerous over-the-counter remedies for acne scars as well as various surgical treatments. However, these treatments are often quite expensive, and in the case of surgical remedies, often quite invasive. However, there are some natural remedies that can help to get rid of pitted skin and acne scars. These remedies have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, however, so talk with your doctor before starting any new treatment.

Sea Salt, Brown Sugar and Honey Scrub for Pitted Skin

According to Julie Gabriel, author of The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances, a mixture of sea salt, brown sugar and honey can be used to make a scrub that can help reduce the appearance of pits on the skin. To make this mixture, combine 1 tsp. sea salt, ½ tsp. brown sugar and 1 tsp. honey in a small container and stir to combine. Gently massage the mixture onto the affected area for two to three minutes. Rinse the area with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't bother your skin, and unused portions can be kept in the refrigerator for 48 hours.

Tea Tree Oil, Olive Leaf Extract and Jojoba Oil for Acne Scars

According to Bill Gottlieb, author of Alternative Cures: More than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies, a mixture of tea tree oil, olive leaf extract and jojoba oil can be used to help get rid of light acne scars over time. To make this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. tea tree oil, ½ tsp. olive leaf extract and 4 tbsp. jojoba oil in a small container and shake or stir to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and rub the pad on the affected area and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the skin with cool water and pat dry before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used every day as long as no irritation occurs, and unused portions can be stored in a cool, dark place for one month.

Aloe Vera Gel, Clary Sage Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil and Avocado Oil for Dark Acne Scars

According to Ann Worwood, author of The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, a mixture of aloe vera gel, Clary sage essential oil, lemon essential oil and avocado oil can be used as a topical treatment for getting rid of dark acne scars. To make and use this mixture, combine ½ tsp. aloe vera gel, ½ tsp. Clary sage essential oil, ½ tsp. lemon essential oil and 8 tbsp. avocado oil in a small container and shake or stir to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the skin and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and washing with a gentle cleanser. This treatment can be once per day unless irritation or extreme redness occurs. Unused portions of the mixture can be stored in a cool, dark place for up two months.
