While hair loss is more common among men than women, it can be a particularly traumatic experience for many women. However, there are some natural botanical hair loss treatments that can help to stop or slow the process. These remedies have not been tested by the FDA, so consult your doctor before starting treatment, particularly if you are using traditional prescription treatments as well.

Pumpkin Seed Extract and Olive Oil

According to Julie Gabriel, author of "The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances," a mixture of pumpkin seed extract and olive oil can be used to help to stop hair loss for women. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. pumpkin seed extract with 4 tbsp. olive oil in a small bottle and shake to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto the scalp and massage it in for 4 to 5 minutes. Rinse the scalp with lukewarm water and wash with a mild shampoo and conditioner before allowing the hair to dry naturally. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't bother your scalp or skin, and left-over portions can be stored in a cool, dark and dry place for 30 days.

Bayberry Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil

According to Jennie Harding, author of "The Essential Oils Handbook: All the Oils You Will Ever Need for Health, Vitality and Well-Being," a mixture of bayberry essential oil and jojoba oil can be used to help stop hair loss. To make this mixture, combine ½ tsp. bayberry essential oil and 6 tsp. jojoba oil in a small container and stir to combine. With clean fingertips, gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the scalp for three or four minutes. Rinse the scalp and hair with lukewarm water and wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't cause any irritation, and unused portions can be kept for one month in a cool, dark place.

Tea Tree Oil, Licorice Root Extract and Sesame Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," a mixture of tea tree oil, licorice root extract and sesame oil can be used to help slow the hair loss process. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. tea tree oil, ½ tbsp. licorice root extract and 6 tbsp. sesame oil in a small container and stir to combine. Massage half of the mixture onto the scalp and roots of the hair and leave it in for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool, clean water and wash with a gentle shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as it doesn't cause irritation. The remaining half of the mixture can be stored in a cool, dark place for use the next day.
