Quad skates, also known as roller-skates, have two rows of two wheels each. Most skaters tend to put more weight on the front or back wheels of the skate or on the outside or inside wheels. Rotating your wheels regularly can prevent uneven wear and prolong the lifespan of the wheels.
Step 1
Check your wheels for uneven wear after each use. If you notice that the wheels look more worn on one side of the skate or at the front or back of the skate, rotate the wheels before you put the skates away and forget about them.
Step 2
Unscrew the axle nuts from the wheels using the Allen wrench. Place the Allen wrench around the axle nut holding one of the skate wheels in place and rotate the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the nut from the axle. Slip the nut and the bearing off the axle and remove the wheel. Remove all the wheels from the skates in this manner and set aside all the nuts and bearings.
Step 3
Place your wheels on a flat surface in their original order on the skates. Swap the left front wheel with the back right wheel on each skate, and swap the right front wheel with the left back wheel on each skate.
Step 4
Reinstall the wheels on the skates in the new order using the Allen wrench. Place each wheel on the appropriate axle and place the bearing and nut on the axle. Use the Allen wrench to rotate the nut clockwise to tighten it.
Tips and Warnings
- When you remove the wheels from your skates, use a soft towel to wipe off your skates' axles. Remove any grit or dirt from the axles. Keeping the axles clean will help your wheels move more smoothly.
