It is no wonder why many senior citizens are relocating to the Bradenton, Florida, area. With its laid-back and relaxing atmosphere, many seniors find this kind of lifestyle appealing. With many seniors living in Bradenton, there are various activities for your enjoyment.

Senior Enrichment Center

The Renaissance on 9th is a senior enrichment center that is membership based. This center has a fitness facility, ballroom, activity center, library, community-meeting rooms, bistro and gift shop.

The classes and activities offered advocate a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity classes include yoga, ballroom and line dancing, Tai Chi and general fitness.

Senior education is offered in computer courses and health workshops and screenings. Just for fun, there is live music, dancing, dinners, ceramics, billiards, card and board games, glass painting, scrapbooking, knitting and crocheting. Enrichment center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Volunteer Opportunity

The South Florida Museum is full of South Florida's Gulf coast history. Located near downtown Main Street, the museum explores cultural and natural history. A good way to have fun and meet others is by becoming a volunteer at the museum.

Volunteers are an important part in the role of the museum. At the museum, you can make a difference in your community and help preserve history. Volunteers earn discounts on a museum membership, store purchases and can even earn free museum passes.

Church Senior Groups

The First Baptist Church of Bradenton has a seniors group called Happy Hearts. Formed in 1985, this group's purpose is to advocate, minister and enjoy friendship with one another. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month. The event starts at 10 a.m. with a worship program followed by a potluck luncheon.

At times, they will meet for lunch at local restaurants. Periodically during the year, they will venture out on trips ranging from local destinations such as Palmetto or as far as The Holy Land. Anyone aged 55 years and older is welcome.

Senior Friendship Centers

Started in 1973, Senior Friendship Centers are places where seniors can get together for activities, socializing and learning a new skill. Some classes in physical activity include balance movement, yoga, senior fitness, relax and stretch for life and Tai Chi.

If you like to play games you may want to join in on the Mah-jongg, bridge, pinochle, Scrabble, Caribbean dominoes or chess with the chess club. There are various activities for you if you are artistic. Arts include Sumi-E painting, ceramics, beginning watercolor, embroidery and woodcarving.

Mote Aquarium

Mote Aquarium is another place you can meet others while volunteering. They work with sea turtles that also involves egg sitting or turtle watching out on the beach. In addition, helping with the animals and being a cashier or greeter is needed. You might find this to be a rewarding experience that you will not forget.
