The skin-beautifying properties of milk applied topically have been known for thousands of years. Cleopatra's milk baths are legendary. Milk is hydrating and contains alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids, so it provides deep cleansing and exfoliation when used on the skin. Milk also contains essential proteins and amino acids, and vitamin A, which nourish skin, according to HealthToday.net.
Step 1
Pour the Epsom salts into a glass bowl. Epsom salts have many health and skin benefits and will be the perfect complement for your soothing milk bath additive. The magnesium in Epsom salt is absorbed by the body, helping "to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation," according to SaltWorks.us.
Step 2
Add the powdered milk and mix thoroughly by hand.
Step 3
Add 10 drops of vanilla essential oil and mix by hand until the vanilla is evenly distributed in the rest of the mixture. You can substitute another essential oil with a soothing fragrance.
Step 4
Add 10 drops of food coloring in a shade that appeals to you and mix thoroughly by hand. Color therapy attributes different properties to colors. Use a color that will enhance an attribute you desire (see Resources). The consistency of the salts should be somewhat moist.
Step 5
Pour mixture into a decorative glass container with a lid. Since your bath salts are completely natural with no preservatives, it is important to discard after six months.
Step 6
Run a bath and add a cup of your milk bath salts to enjoy its health and beauty benefits.
