You look down at your body and see bumpy, dimpled skin that resembles cottage cheese. Say hello to your cellulite. The condition is nothing more than body fat gathered in the connective tissue under your skin. Removing cellulite can not only enhance how you feel about your physical appearance, but it will improve your overall health. Getting rid of this unsightly fat relies on standard fat-loss methods: eating healthy and staying active.

Step 1

Clean out your cabinets to remove any foods that can cause cellulite. Review the nutrition labels on foods and look to toss out items that are high in fat, indicated by having more than 20 percent of the daily nutritional value, and have added sugar, which appears in ingredient lists as glucose, fructose and corn syrup.

Step 2

Stock up on nutrient-dense food items. The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends eating a diet full of fruits, whole grains, vegetables, lean protein and low-fat, calcium-rich foods. These food items provide vitamins, antioxidants and minerals without extra fat, sugar and calories.

Step 3

Participate in at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity per day to remove excess body fat. Choose activities that you can perform in your home or neighborhood like jumping rope, bicycling, jogging, walking, step aerobics, swimming or playing tennis. Increase the intensity and time of your aerobic activity sessions as you gain endurance and strength.

Step 4

Execute strength training three times a week to build muscle tissue and remove cellulite. According to the American Council on Exercise, you should perform at least five exercises for the upper body and lower body during each session. Perform exercises that use your body weight or free weights, such as push-up and squats.
