Dark circles under the eyes affect your appearance, making you look tired. Common causes of dark under-eye circles include genetics, smoking, allergies, dehydration and lack of sleep, according to the Mayo Clinic. Although getting adequate sleep, avoiding allergens and drinking plenty of fluids can minimize the appearance of dark circles, you cannot eliminate them entirely. However, you can try to cover them up. Makeup techniques can make dark under-eye circles less noticeable.
Step 1
Prepare the skin under your eyes by applying a moisturizing eye cream. Moisturizing the area will help prevent makeup from looking cakey on top of dry skin.
Step 2
Choose a concealer in the same shade as your skin. A concealer with a yellow tone can neutralize the color of dark circles. Do not select a shade that is too light, as this can draw more attention to the under-eye area.
Step 3
Apply the concealer by placing three dots directly under each eye. Place one in the center under the eye, another one at the outer edge and one at the inside edge. Blend the dots to cover the entire under-eye area.
Step 4
Apply foundation over your entire face, including the under-eye area, to even out the color.
