The Energie Kegel Exerciser is a weight-resistance trainer for the pelvic floor muscle also known as the puboccygeus, PC or Kegel muscle. The relationship between the PC muscle and urinary incontinence was first discovered by Dr. Arnold Kegel, a urologist, in the early 1940s.
Weak Kegel muscles can decrease sexual pleasure and poor muscle control during labor and childbirth. Kegel muscles can also be weakened during childbirth. Shaped like a barbell, the exerciser is 6-1/2 inches by 1-3/8 inches and is made of antibacterial plastic.
How to Use the Energie Kegel Exerciser
Step 1
Find your PC muscle by abruptly stopping and starting the flow of urine, or insert your finger into your vagina and squeeze your pelvic muscles until you feel pressure around your finger.
Step 2
Lie down on your back with one or two pillows under your head. Bend your knees with both feet flat.
Step 3
Relax your pelvic muscles and insert either the small or large end of the exerciser into your vaginal opening.
Step 4
Take a deep breath, then exhale while you pull up your pelvic floor muscle surrounding the exerciser. You should feel like you're trying to pull in and up toward your navel.
Step 5
Hold for 30 seconds, then release and relax for 30 seconds. Repeat 10 times.
Tips and Warnings
- Lubricate your exerciser with a vaginal lubricant before inserting. Start out by inserting the larger, heavier end of the exerciser so that there will be less weight resistance outside your vagina. As you become more proficient and your Kegel muscles get stronger, you can graduate to greater weight resistance by inserting the smaller end of the exerciser. The further you insert the exerciser, the more layers of muscle you strengthen. Share the benefits of your stronger pelvic floor muscles with your partner for extra pleasure during sex. Use your exerciser 5 minutes twice a day to strengthen the muscles. Once you've accomplished your goal, go on a maintenance program of 5 minutes a day, 3 times a week.
- Be patient. It can take between 6 to 12 weeks before you experience results.
