Most bike fenders attach first to the fork itself, then attach with wire struts to the bottom of the fork for stability. If installed on a front-suspension fork, the up-and-down movement of the suspension would damage the fender. A simple solution is to install a snap-on fender that mounts only to the fork. Two mounting methods are available. The first connects the fender to the standard fender mounting holes in the fork. The other inserts into the bottom of the head tube under the fork. Both systems effectively isolate the fender from the movement of the suspension.

Fork Hole Mounting

Step 1

Insert the hex bolt through the underside of the fender so it fits into the bolt holder on the fender.

Step 2

Place the steel hanger on the hex bolt and push it forward onto the clip on the top of the fender. Thread the quick-release nut onto the hex bolt to hold the steel hanger in place.

Step 3

Insert the hanger bolt through the hole in the hanger. Place any washers required on the hanger bolt. Insert the hanger bolt through the mounting holes in the center of the forks, sliding the front of the fender under the forks in the process.

Step 4

Fit the lock washer and nut on the hanger bolt. Tighten the hanger bolt and nut securely.

Head Tube Installation

Step 1

Place the fender clip, the locking collar, the locking head and nut on the lock bolt.

Step 2

Insert the entire assembly into the steering head tube under the front forks of the bike. Tighten the locking bolt with the Allen wrench to draw the locking head down onto the locking collar. This jams the assembly in the tube to hold it in place.

Step 3

Slide the fender onto the fender clip until it snaps in place.

Things You'll Need

  • Allen wrench set
  • 2 adjustable wrenches
