The skateboard ledge refers to an obstacle utilized by skateboarders to perform tricks known in the lexicon as slides and grinds. Skaters slide across the ledge on the wooden areas on the bottom of the board. Riders execute grinds on the metal components also located on the bottom of the board. Skaters commonly build ledges out of wood, yet using cinder blocks for the construction ensures that the skateboard ledge can withstand the damaging effects of rain and prolonged sun exposure.
Step 1
Transport the skateboard ledge building supplies to a paved area where you have permission to construct a permanent obstacle.
Step 2
Lay one of the cinder blocks horizontally on the pavement with one of the flat rectangular shaped faces on top. Apply the liquid nail adhesive to one of the square shaped faces of the cinder block.
Step 3
Place another cinder block on the pavement horizontally and press one of its square shaped faces against the liquid nail adhesive on the first cinder block. Repeat this process of connecting the square shaped faces of the cinder blocks until you have a structure consisting of four attached cinder blocks.
Step 4
Apply the liquid nail adhesive to the level surface on top of the four attached cinder blocks. Create another identical row of four attached cinder blocks on top of the first row. Squirt the liquid nail adhesive between the touching square faces of the cinder blocks to ensure the top row of the ledge has a solid construction.
Step 5
Squeeze the liquid nail adhesive along the two longest edges of the top row of cinder blocks. Place one piece of 5-foot long angle iron on each of the two long edges where the liquid nail adhesive has been applied.
Step 6
Rest two cinder blocks on both pieces of angle iron to secure them in position during the adhesive drying process. Lift the four cinder blocks from the two pieces of angle iron. Examine the construction of the cinder block skateboarding ledge before skating it for the first time.
Things You'll Need
- 12 cinder blocks
- 2 pieces of 2-by-2-by-1/4 inch angle iron, 5 feet long
