How to Burn Abdomen Fat

Excess abdominal fat can be perilous to your health. It should be shed not only for vanity purposes but to prevent health risks like heart disease, diabetes, stroke and hypertension, according to the Harvard Medical School. There are plenty of fad diet products on the market that claim to get rid of belly fat but most of them have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and may compromise your health. Use the standard combo of healthy diet, cardiovascular exercise and strength training to eliminate abdomen fat.

Step 1

Engage in cardio exercise to burn abdomen fat. This can include any activity you enjoy that raises your heart rate like swimming, jogging, bicycling, dancing, jumping rope or elliptical training. Aim to get at least half an hour of moderate cardio exercise most days of the week.

Step 2

Sleep at least six to eight hours every night. According to an article published in USA Today, sleep deprived individuals are more likely to gain weight around their midsection than those who are well-rested. Research suggests a lack of slumber will deter you from being physically active as well as altering appetite-regulating hormones that can cause overeating.

Step 3

Control stress levels for a slimmer waistline. Stress is a precursor to belly fat so you should find an activity that promotes relaxation. Sitting in a steam room or sauna as well as deep-breathing techniques, yoga and meditation all help keep stress at bay.

Step 4

Tighten your abdominal muscles with targeted exercises. There is not such thing as spot reduction for effective weight loss, but ab exercises will improve overall muscle tone around your stomach. Sit-ups, crunches, side bends and twists work all of your major ab muscles. Aim for at least three days a week of abdominal training.

Step 5

Drink at least eight, 8-oz glasses of water daily. Human bodies are composed of 60 percent water and drinking water helps flush toxins out of the system, according to the Mayo Clinic. It will also help you feel more satiated, curbing the number of calories you take in.
