A potential employer must have liked your resume and cover letter, because they've asked you to come in for an interview. If the resume was your first impression, this is your chance to prove it right. For a successful job interview, you must stand out over the other candidates as someone who would be ideal for the job. With a little preparation, you can make this more likely.

Preparation

The Bureau of Labor Statistics advises interviewees to learn as much about the organization as possible before the interview. Think about your experience and how it relates to the job so you will be prepared to explain your qualifications. Anticipate questions that are asked often at job interviews, such as "Why do you want this job?" Practice answering these questions to prevent rambling, suggests Employment Guide.

Personal Appearance

Research the company and dress how managers dress, according to The Times-Tribune. If unsure, dress conservatively. Wear neutral colors to keep the focus on you, not your clothes. The Times-Tribune also recommends a modern hair cut, clean nails and trimmed, neat facial hair if you are a man.

The Interview

The Bureau of Labor Statistics advises interviewees to arrive early and greet the interviewer with a firm handshake. They should also avoid slang and be enthusiastic, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Don't slouch. Body language is extremely important, according to Employment Guide. Have good posture and maintain eye contact.

Ask Questions

Make notes of things you want to know more about during your research of the company. Then, ask these questions at the conclusion of your interview.

Follow Up

Send a short thank you note after the interview. Include in the note two things you talked about during the interview. This will remind the employer of who you are because you personalized your thank you note.
