Beaumont, Texas, is located in the southern portion of the State, near Houston. Part of Jefferson County, the city hosts the Beaumont Botanical Gardens, two golf courses and the Riverfront Park, among other attractions. On the Gulf coast, it is situated in an area of Texas that provides availability to waterways, beaches, forests and natural terrain suitable for outdoor recreation. Camping is plentiful in and surrounding Beaumont, with a variety of camp sites available.

History

The City of Beaumont was established in 1838 and was initially a town focused on lumber and rice milling. By the end of the Civil War, Beaumont utilized its ports to transport lumber for rebuilding. In 1901 Beaumont became a town concentrated on oil, with the Spindletop Hill explosion from a gusher that lasted more than nine days. At that point in history, Beaumont expanded in population significantly and it has continued to grow since. Today Beaumont retains its historical ambiance, while at the same time being a modern city that attracts tourists for a number of activities, including camping.

Types

Within the city of Beaumont are campgrounds for tent campers, as well as for RV campers. In all there are five independently run campsites and one state-run campground in Beaumont. Some of these are intended for RVs only and are not on traditional park-like campgrounds. Others are privately operated, with limited camping space capacity and campers are responsible for obeying the owner's specific camping rules. Private campsites have space available for both RV and tent camping.

At the Village Creek State Park in Beaumont you will find several camping amenities, including electricity, picnic tables, running water and trailer dump stations. RV parks in Beaumont may include amenities such as laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, cable, spaces for tent camping, patios and restrooms. Other campgrounds may include facilities for boating, fishing or hiking.

Geography

Beaumont campgrounds are located near the Ben Bruce Memorial Airpark Raceway, Big Thicket National Preserve and the Boomtown USA Water Park. The Big Thicket National Preserve is located in nearby Kountze, Texas, which provides educational opportunities for children, including activities hosted by park Rangers upon request. While camping in Beaumont, you can cross over into neighboring Lumberton, Texas, and visit the Adventure Kingdom, which is a Renaissance-type family theme park, or take a riverboat up the Neches River out of Beaumont. Houston is 79 miles from Beaumont, while neighboring towns include Port Author, Orange, Bridge City and Baytown.

Considerations

Numerous campgrounds exist in the surrounding communities adjacent to Beaumont. Additionally, while camping opportunities are abundant, you should always call in advance to make reservations for a camp site and to determine if the facility will meet your specific camping needs. The Beaumont area has a high influx of tourists, many of them campers, and these camp sites have a tendency to fill up fast.
