Easton Synergy Hockey Skates Review

A sporting goods company originally producing mainly archery equipment, Easton has grown into one of the biggest names across several different sports. In the hockey equipment realm, Easton ranks among the industry leaders in sticks and gloves, and is growing faster in skates than any other company. The top-of-the-line skate produced by Easton for 2010 is the Synergy EQ5.

Comfort

The Synergy EQ5 skate has been developed to provide power and comfort for skaters, and differs from previous Synergy skate models. A lightweight fusion foam allows for a customizable fit to your foot. This feature is thermally activated and is known as Easton's Ideal-Fit System. The boot is in the medium-to-wide range, making the Synergy EQ5 an alternative to those who do not fit comfortably in Easton's thinner Stealth skate line. A felt-based tongue provides traditional comfort with adequate protection of the foot and ankle.

Technology

The reinforced framework of the Synergy EQ5 provides composite energy return, creating performance consistency and better response. Along with the Ideal-Fit system, the skate also has Texalium Composite Outsole, which enhances moisture management through Easton's trademark Dry Flow system. The outsole allows heat and moisture to escape the boot keep the skate lighter and drier during prolonged use.

Price

The suggested retail price for the Easton EQ5 is $549.99, according to Inline Ice Warehouse. This price is on the lower side for top-tier skates released in 2010, such as the Bauer TotalOne at $799.99, and Reebok 11K at $599.99. Lower prices are available from Easton in the Synergy line with considerably fewer features, such as the EQ1 to EQ4 models.
