The Atlanta Airport's Whereabouts
Located in College Park, the Atlanta Airport is surrounded by activity. To the immediate west of the airport is the Gordon Morris Memorial Golf Course. To the north of the airport is Hapeville and Hammond Park, to the east there is Fort Gillem and Forest Park and to the south there is Riverdale. More importantly, however, in every direction there are interesting things to do if you have time to kill.
Go for a Walk Downtown
If you have a few hours, it is easy to take a ride on the MARTA rail and get off downtown. There are a lot of sites to see in Atlanta. Getting off at North Avenue or Peachtree Center is only about a half-hour ride. The best way to get to know a city is to sight-see by foot in the center of town, and walking is a great way to get some exercise. Make sure to check out the Botanical Gardens. The wildflower trails are a great way to take in some natural beauty while getting some exercise at the same time.
Visit Stone Mountain Park
Just 29 miles from the airport is Stone Mountain Park, which is Atlanta's most visited attraction. The park is made up of 3,200 acres and includes the largest exposed granite rock. Many fun activities await an intrigued visitor. A day pass is only $27, as of 2010, and make sure to try out the new Sky Hike, which is the largest ropes course in the world.
Tour the Aquarium
If you want to take in a little culture, maybe the best stop to make is the Georgia Aquarium. Being the world's biggest, the aquarium has 8 million gallons of water and giant displays that include whale sharks and reef life. The aquarium houses more aquatic animals than any other in the world. One of the true prides of Atlanta, the aquarium is a can't miss.
Get a Healthy Meal
Located only 12 miles from the airport is the delicious and healthy restaurant Lottafrutta Gourmet Fruit House & Market. Offering healthy options such as the gourmet frutta cup and protein smoothies, Lottafrutta is a great place to go get a healthy and fun meal. The restaurant is located on the corner of Auburn and Randolph streets. The restaurant also has grilled sandwiches, custom salads and much more.
