Getting kids to eat breakfast can be a challenge, especially if your child is a picky eater. Getting them to eat healthy foods for breakfast can be even more difficult, particularly if your children seem to prefer sugary cereals. While cereal is an easy and convenient choice, it's not your only one. There are a number of delicious and filling breakfast meals to choose from that kids of all ages are sure to enjoy.
Egg in a Nest
Egg in a Nest is an easy way to get kids to eat their eggs and toast in the morning. According to Family Fun, all you need is a slice of bread--white, or wheat if you prefer--a little butter and an egg. Butter one side of the bread and use a cookie cutter to cut out the center. Put the bread butter-side-down in a frying pan on medium heat. When it's lightly fried, flip it over. Crack the egg in the center and cook 2 to 3 minutes until the egg sets.
Banana Blueberry Pancakes
Banana blueberry pancakes are filling and easy to make. According to Taste of Home, you can make your own pancake batter at home or used a prepackaged mix, preferably whole wheat. Prepare the mix as directed, adding in 1 1/2 cups of fresh or thawed frozen blueberries and 3 mashed or sliced bananas. Pour the batter onto a heated griddle in 1/4 cupfuls, heating until bubbles form. Flip the pancakes to brown on the other side. Top with syrup, whipped cream or powdered sugar.
Breakfast Pizza
If your kids love pizza, try serving it for breakfast. Taste of Home recommends using a prepackaged pizza crust to save time, although you can make your own. Brush the crust with 1 tbsp. of olive oil and bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned. Top the pizza crust with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, crumbled bacon or sausage, and cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Bake 5 to 7 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
Breakfast Burritos
You can make breakfast burritos with just about anything you might have in your refrigerator. Better Homes and Gardens suggest stuffing warmed whole wheat tortillas with any of combination of the following: scrambled eggs, crumbled bacon or sausage, ham, turkey, tomatoes, peppers, onions, cheeses or anything else you can think of. Serve with salsa and sour cream on the side.
French Toast Sticks
French toast sticks are a fun, hands-on alternative to traditional french toast. You can make french toast sticks by slicing Texas toast into thirds, or you can purchase them at the grocery store. Taste of Home recommends topping them with spreadable strawberry cream cheese and making french toast stick sandwiches. You can also top your french toast sticks with syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream or powdered sugar.
