Garmin 255W & 260W GPS Comparison

The nuvi 255W and 260W are automotive GPS (Global Positioning System) navigators from Garmin International, Inc., which specializes in manufacturing GPS products. As of August 2010, Garmin still manufactures the 255W with a price of $179.99; the 260W has been discontinued, but can still be purchased at retail outlets such as Amazon.com.

Widescreen and Other Physical Specs

Both are notable for their widescreen displays, thus the "W" designation. Each screen measures 4.3 inches diagonally and has 480 by 272 pixels in WQVGA resolution. Additionally, each device measures 4.8 by 2.9 by 0.8 inches in width, height and depth, respectively, with a weight of about 6 oz.

Main Features

The Garmin 255W and 260W have preloaded street maps and a points-of-interest database that includes locations such as hotels, ATMs and restaurants. Other major features include a JPEG picture viewer, a time zone-based world travel clock, currency and measurement converters, and an anti-theft feature called Garmin Lock. The 255W additionally has the ability to download pictures and navigate to them using the Garmin Connect Photos feature.

Memory

Each 255W and 260W has internal built-in memory, although that can be expanded using a Secure Digital Card. The 255W, however, can store up to 1,000 locations compared to the 260W's capacity of 500.
