Caused by everything from allergies to too much time spent in the sun, black discoloration under the eyes can put a halt to the morning routine of getting ready for the day. Although dark circles are generally harmless implying no serious underlying medical problem, they are still not part of the face most want to present to the world. Black under the eyes makes you appear more tired or older than you really are. With a few simple strategies, black under the eyes is as good as gone.
Step 1
Grate a small- to medium-sized potato with a grater into two small piles. Wrap each pile in a piece of cheesecloth so that nothing falls out and place one pack over each eye. Lie back so that the packs don't fall off and rest comfortably with the packs over your eyes. Keep the packs on your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the catecholase, an enzyme found in potatoes that is commonly used in cosmetics for skin lightening, to have time to help eliminate the black under your eyes.
Step 2
Make a cup of tea with two tea bags. Enjoy the strong tea or toss it out and save the tea bags. Green, white, or black tea bags are optimal as herbal tea won't produce the same effect. Squeeze any excess moisture from the tea bags with your hands and let the tea bags cool. Place one over each eye for 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 3
Fill the sink or a large bowl with ice water. Splash the cold water over your face for three to five minutes. The cold temperature will stimulate circulation in your face and help to diminish the darkness under your eyes.
Step 4
Apply a cream that contains vitamins C, E and K as well as retinol under your eyes each night before you go to bed and in the morning when you notice discoloration under your eyes. If the cream is cold it can be more effective as the cold temperature can help to constrict the dilated blood vessels which are causing the black color.
Step 5
Massage rich almond oil into the skin under your eyes each night before you go to bed if black areas under the eyes are a reoccurring problem. After two weeks of using the almond oil there should be a noticeable difference.
Tips and Warnings
- If the black discoloration under your eyes is a reoccurring problem that you can't seem to get rid of, talk to your doctor to rule out any potential underlying medical issues and find a solution that will work for you.
