When it comes to losing your double chin, “fast” is likely not an option. Even surgical procedures, which tend to produce the quickest results, can take weeks and sometimes months to showcase noticeable results.

Whatever the reason for your double or triple chin, one option for removal is surgery. Cosmetic surgeons can perform a neck lift surgery procedure to remove excess skin or tighten loose neck muscles. The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery notes the recovery time for these procedures is typically two weeks, with some residual side effects lasting a few months.

If you are younger and have good skin elasticity, some experts will recommend liposuction to remove excess fat and improve the appearance of a double or triple chin. Since this is a relatively quick procedure, most people return to work within one week and resume regular activities after two weeks.

While not a fast procedure, a newer injectable agent designed especially for eliminating fat is gaining popularity among people looking to shed their double chin. Kybella, which is the manufacturer's name for deoxycholic acid, got the thumbs up from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in April 2015 for the treatment of moderate-to-severe fat below the chin.

Double Chin Workout

If you're looking for a less invasive method to change the appearance of your chin, consider losing weight and trying a double chin workout to exercise the facial muscles. While not a quick fix, or even a guaranteed way to rid your chin of the extra layers, toning the area may lead to tighter skin.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) recommends performing face aerobics and face yoga at least five days a week for a period of three months in order to see any noticeable changes. While Harvard Health Publishing cites a lack of rigorous, scientific studies that verify the claim that face exercises and a double chin workout are actually effective, however, they do point out that facial exercise could produce some benefits including improving muscle tone and fighting gravity-related fat loss.

If your double chin is a consequence of being overweight, a change to your diet and exercise routine may help eliminate some of the fat. That said, aim for weight loss that is slow, steady and permanent.

Repeatedly losing and gaining a significant amount of weight may cause your skin to stretch and become loose, which can give the appearance of excess fat under the chin. With that in mind, losing one to two pounds a week is the amount that many experts, including the Mayo Clinic, frequently recommend.
