Dry, dull-looking hair and an itchy, flaky scalp may be caused by genetics, climate, styling products and tools, pollution or smoking. Dry hair tends to split at the ends, and generally looks lifeless. Many commercial products claim to restore moisture to your scalp and shine to hair, but they are often expensive and may contain harmful chemicals. Fortunately, there are several home remedies for dry hair and scalp that are inexpensive and simple to use.
Step 1
Mix 1/2 cup coconut oil and four crushed almonds together, and heat them together in a pan on your stove for several minutes. Remove from the heat and cool until warm, then massage the mixture into your scalp, advises BestInCosmetics.com. Cover your hair with a towel, and leave the mixture in for 1/2 an hour. Shampoo and condition as usual.
Step 2
Mix together two ripe bananas and 1/2 cup of plain yogurt. Massage the mixture into your scalp and coat the ends of your hair. Leave it in for 15 minutes, then shampoo your hair as you normally do.
Step 3
Mix 1/2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water and empty into a spray bottle. Spray the solution on your hair after your regular shampooing and conditioning routine, and leave it in. Once it dries, any vinegar smell will disappear, advises the Chagrin Valley Soap website.
Step 4
Separate the whites from the yolks of a few eggs. Whip the whites together until frothy. Take the yolks and add 1 tbsp of water for each egg yolk and mix them together. Combine the whites and yolk mixture back together, then rub it into your hair, says the Home Remedies Treatment website. Massage your scalp with the mixture for several minutes, then rinse out with cool water.
