A car ski rack is a convenient way to transport your skis to the slopes. While different manufacturers produce various car ski rack designs, a typical rack consists of a pair of long clamps that securely fasten to the roof rack of the car. The clamps open on one side to allow you to position the skis within them. These clamps then close on the skis, gripping and locking them firmly in place. Proper placement of the skis in the rack protects them from both damage and theft when traveling.
Step 1
Check that the mounting brackets of the ski racks are installed properly and securely to the roof rack of the vehicle.
Step 2
Release the latch on the end of each of the ski racks. Tighten the universal mounts on the ski racks, if they are loose or improperly positioned on the roof rack of the vehicle.
Step 3
Place the bases of the skis together with the tips at one end and tails at the other.
Step 4
Load the skis into the ski racks. Place the ski tips to the rear of the vehicle. Position the ski bindings between each ski rack. Position the skis so that the ski tips are not hit when opening the rear hatch or window of the vehicle.
Step 5
Check that there is sufficient clearance between the bindings on the bottom ski and the roof of the vehicle.
Step 6
Close the ski racks and latch them securely, using firm pressure to clamp the skis in place. Pull upward on the top section of the ski racks to verify they are closed securely.
Step 7
Insert each ski rack key into its lock core. Insert each lock core into the lock housing in the ski rack. Lock each core into the rack and remove the key.
