Snack time shouldn't mean you have to spend hours in the kitchen preparing glamorous treats for the kids every day. Families on the go need to have quick and easy snacks available at a moment's notice. Preparing a few treats in advance, or simply stocking your freezer or cabinet, will make snack time a breeze.
Graham Cracker Sandwiches
For a sweet treat, mix 1/2 cup of peanut butter, 2 small mashed bananas, and 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon in a bowl. Spread a generous serving of the mixture on one graham cracker and then top it with a second graham cracker, creating a sandwich snack.
As an alternative, you can eat this mixture as a dip. Just break the graham crackers into smaller squares, or use Teddy Grahams, to scoop the dip up for eating. (References 1).
Tropical Popsicle
For a fruity frozen treat packed with Vitamin C, try mixing a blend of fruits and fruit juices and freezing them into popsicles. Start with 1 cup of guava nectar, 1 cup of pineapple chunks, and 1 cup of pineapple juice. Place a few berries or pieces of kiwi at the bottom of your popsicle molds or paper cups. Pour the juice into the molds, add popsicle sticks, and place them in the freezer until frozen.
Here's a tip for getting the popsicle sticks to stand upstraight if you are using paper cups of your own. Cover the cups with aluminum foil and then make a small slit in the center to hold the stick in place. (References 2)
Green Giants
For a healthy snack that involves almost no preparation work, look for Morning Start Farms Veggie Bites in your grocer's freezer section. These broccoli and cheese snacks are easy to heat in the oven or microwave, and will help you to sneak an extra serving of vitamin-packed vegetables into your child's diet.
Teddy Grahams and Yogurt
Teddy Grahams and yogurt are easy to mix together and will give your child a sweet pick-me-up and a healthy dose of calcium at the same time. You can use Teddy Grahams, your favorite generic alternative, or even plain animal crackers. Mix 10 to 15 crackers with a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of yogurt and serve. Let your child sprinkle some fresh berries or sliced bananas on top if he'd like.
Macaroni and Cheese
Most kids love macaroni and cheese, but you don't have to prepare an entire box, or make it from scratch, in order to keep them happy. Kraft sells individual Easy Mac cups, which are perfect for a quick snack after school or on the weekends. All you have to do is add water, microwave the cup for a couple of minutes, and serve.
