Low-carb diets are no longer banished under the dim title of "fad diet" since a 2010 study published in the "Annals of Internal Medicine" has shown that low-carb diets are just as effective as low-fat diets when it comes to losing weight in the long term. Preparing delicious low-carb snacks ahead of time will help you stick to your diet and drop those unwanted pounds.

Sweet and Sour Pickles

Crisp and lightly pickled cucumbers make a delicious snack or an elegant side salad for a low-carb summer meal. They can be dressed and served immediately or stored for several days in the refrigerator. Slice two cucumbers and layer the slices in a shallow dish. In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup rice vinegar, 1 tsp. sesame oil, a dash of salt and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Stir to combine and then pour over the cucumber slices. Enjoy immediately or allow to marinate for several hours for more intense flavor.

Deviled Ham on Celery

Commercially prepared deviled ham can be tricky on a low-carb diet because unknown ingredients can add to the carbohydrate total. You can make your own deviled ham at home with a food processor and a few ingredients. This will allow you to cut or substitute those ingredients from recipes that don't fit in to your low-carb lifestyle. A basic deviled ham includes ham, mayonnaise, prepared mustard, and onion. Stuff celery sticks with deviled ham for a crunchy and satisfying low-carb snack.

Crudités

Crudités as a fancy appetizer may have gone out with the 1970s, but this raw vegetable platter still makes a healthy low fat and low carb snack with the right ingredients. Carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, fresh green beans, cucumber sticks and asparagus are all wonderful served cold and with a simple vinaigrette on the side for dipping. In addition to limiting your carbohydrate intake, raw vegetables provide you with extra fiber, vitamins and minerals, notes the staff at the Mayo Clinic.

Fried Pork Skins

If you want something crunchy, salty and satisfying, deep fried pork skins, also called pork rinds, may be just the snack you are looking for. Fried pork skins have just under 10 calories per piece and zero carbohydrates per serving. Snack with caution, however, since they are also loaded with saturated fats.
