There's nothing quite as luxurious as treating yourself to a day at a spa, but often, busy schedules and budgetary constraints mean that spa visits are limited to extra-special occasions. If you're craving that pampered day-at-the-spa feeling, the next best thing is a spa facial that you can mix up in your kitchen. Skin-friendly ingredients such as papaya, avocado, honey, carrot, apple, egg and oatmeal are as close as your neighborhood supermarket.
Pumpkin-Papaya Spa Face Mask
Step 1
Cut a ripe papaya in half and use a spoon to remove the seeds. Place the papaya in a bowl and use a fork to mash the fruit until it's smooth and free of lumps.
Step 2
Place one egg white in a small mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until the egg white is frothy. Stir the egg white into the mashed papaya.
Step 3
Add a 15-oz. can of pumpkin into the papaya mixture. Use pure pumpkin, and avoid pumpkin pie filling.
Step 4
Wash your face with warm water and your usual cleanser. Dry your skin with a soft towel. Smooth the mask onto your face, avoiding the tender skin around your eyes.
Step 5
Allow the pumpkin-papaya mask to remain on your face for 10 minutes, and then rinse with warm water. Dry your skin and apply your favorite toner and moisturizer.
Carrot Avocado Mask
Step 1
Place one cooked, cooled carrot in a mixing bowl. Add one ripe avocado and mash the ingredients with a fork until the mixture is smooth.
Step 2
Stir in 1/2 cup yogurt or heavy cream, 3 tbsp. honey and one whole, beaten egg.
Step 3
Spread the mixture over your clean face, and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the mask from your face with cool water. Dry your skin and apply toner and moisturizer.
Apple Honey Spa Mask
Step 1
Grate one apple into a small mixing bowl. Stir in 1/2 tsp. half and half or yogurt, 1 tsp. uncooked oatmeal and 1 tsp. honey.
Step 2
Wash your face and smooth the apple-honey facial onto your skin. Wash your face with warm water after 20 minutes.
Step 3
Dry your face, and then apply toner and moisturizer.
