Weekend jobs can supplement your full-time earnings, or they can allow you to contribute to the family budget within your time constraints. If you're a parent without regular weekday child care, a weekend job can provide challenge and income opportunities. If you're committed to paying off your debts, weekend work can help to streamline that process. Or if you're a full-time student during the week, a weekend job in your field can help you gain valuable experience as you continue your education.
Step 1
Look for weekend teaching jobs. Write down your former jobs, and list skills and certifications acquired through those positions. For example, note if you have earned a welder's certification, have completed a program to teach English as a Second Language or have acquired other demonstrable skills. If so, contact your local community college. Although programs and facilities vary, many colleges offer continuing or credit education programs on weekends. Contact faculty coordinators at each college.
Step 2
Visit recreational and leisure facilities. Note the locations of golf courses, paintball fields and batting cage operations that may be busier on weekends. Add seasonal destinations such as beaches, ski resorts and campgrounds. Visit each of these facilities in addition to region-specific attractions such as for-profit museums and amusement parks. Ask for the on-duty manager.
Step 3
Find businesses with weekend overflows. Businesses such as retail stores, movie theaters and bowling alleys commonly experience increased traffic on weekends. Browse mall stores and busy specialty shops as well. If you're located in a tourist destination, investigate shops that are busy when a visitors' train or tour coach rolls into town, or that generally receive heavy weekend traffic. Speak with the owner or manager about a weekend position.
Step 4
Look for a weekend job in the hospitality industry. Many restaurants add staff to accommodate larger numbers of weekend diners and may extend business hours as well. Wedding receptions and hotel-based banquets commonly take place on weekends and may require additional servers, notes EmploymentSpot. Contact on-duty restaurant managers and the hotel's banquet services department.
Step 5
Look for a weekend relief job if you have nursing skills or work in another field requiring constant care. Weekend-only nurses may work extended weekend hours to provide relief for weekday staff. Weekend positions are ideal for nurses with scheduling or transportation constraints. You may also find a weekend receptionist or nursing assistant position at a nursing home. Talk to the human resources department or staffing coordinator.
Step 6
Browse an online jobs directory. Each job listing includes a complete position description, information on the hiring company and requirements for the position. The listing will also indicate any required professional or drug tests. Apply online if interested, notes SimplyHired.
